Overview

Master of Health Leadership and Management

The Master of Health Leadership and Management (MHLM) at UC integrates Health and Business courses to equip you with leadership and management knowledge in health and community settings. Through experiential and research-informed learning you will gain the skills to lead teams, manage complex and resource-constrained environments, and drive innovation and quality improvement across primary, community, and secondary health services.

Master of Health Leadership and Management

  • Study a compulsory core covering health information management, leading people in healthcare organisations, and research approaches — giving you a strong foundation across the key disciplines of health leadership and management.
  • Choose electives from UC's Business School, Public Health, and Health Sciences offerings, tailoring your learning to your career goals across areas including strategy, ethics, health systems, policy, and Hauora Māori.
  • In your final semester, choose between a work-integrated experiential research practicum — applying leadership and management theory to a real challenge in a health organisation — or a research dissertation for those pursuing a more academic pathway.
  • Develop advanced skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-informed improvements in health service delivery and organisational performance.
  • Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and culturally responsive leadership throughout your studies, preparing you to lead across Aotearoa New Zealand's diverse health sector.

Master of Health Leadership and Management

To apply to the MHLM, you will need to have previously completed any Aotearoa New Zealand bachelor’s degree with a B Grade Point Average or better, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard.

If English is not your first language, you are also required to meet UC's Postgraduate language requirements. See how to provide your English language evidence to UC. If you need help meeting these requirements, or would like to practise your English skills before studying, UC offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) language programmes.

For the full entry requirements, see the Regulations for the Master of Health Leadership and Management or use the admission requirements checker.
