International tuition fees

19 August 2026

You will pay international tuition fees if you are a citizen or a residence class visa holder of a country other than New Zealand or Australia, except if you are on an approved reciprocal exchange programme (covered by a formal exchange agreement) or you are enrolled in a PhD while living in New Zealand.

HOW TO APPLY

Tuition fees estimate by course

Tuition fees vary for each course, depending on the subject area and course level. Subjects that involve lab work usually have a higher tuition fee than lecture-based subjects, and postgraduate courses are normally more expensive than undergraduate courses. Tuition fees also reflect the point value of the course, so that a 30-point course fee will be twice the fee of a 15-point course in the same subject area and level. Each course is assigned to a Tuition Fee Band according to its subject area and whether it is at undergraduate level or postgraduate level, as outlined below.

Special Programme Fees

While most tuition fees are determined by adding the fees for each enrolled course, some qualifications instead have a Special Programme Fee. This means you pay a set fee for the whole qualification at the beginning of your studies, even if it takes 18-24 months to complete.

The Special Programme Fee does not include non-tuition fees like SSL and insurance, and does not cover repeated courses, so any courses taken over the points value of your qualification will be charged at the current rate. If you have not paid the advertised Special Programme Fee (in full) and your qualification takes more than one year to complete, your following year's fees will be higher.

Tuition fees estimate by qualification

Find your qualification from the list below to see either the Special Programme Fee (if applicable) or an estimate of what your tuition fees are likely to be.  The final amount on your Statement of Fees in your Enrolment Agreement (when you complete your enrolment) will reflect whether you have chosen a qualification with a Special Programme Fee or a qualification that has banded fees for each course.

The prices below are indicative only, and UC reserves the right to change these published fees before enrolment to reflect any changes in Government or University Council Policy. See Fees and Fines Regulations for more information.

Non-tuition fees

All students are expected to pay the Student Services Levy (SSL) in addition to tuition fees. International students are also required to have insurance during their time at UC.

Paying your fees

International students are required to provide evidence they have paid their tuition fees as part of their application for a student visa.  This means most international students pay the fee estimate that is shown on their Offer of Place in advance.

When you complete your enrolment you will receive a Statement of Fees with your Enrolment Agreement that outlines your final tuition fees, the Student Services Levy (SSL), Insurance, and any other course-related costs. If the amount paid in advance is different from the final amount shown on the Statement of Fees when enrolment is completed, the difference is charged or refunded.

Failure to accept your Enrolment Agreement by the deadline may also incur a Late Enrolment Fee that will show on your Statement of Fees.

Fees disclaimer

UC reserves the right to change published fees before enrolment to reflect any changes in Government or University Council Policy. See Fees and Fines Regulations for more information or contact the Enrolments team.

All prices are in NZ Dollars and are inclusive of NZ GST or any equivalent overseas tax unless otherwise stated.
