Overview
Developing students with specialised knowledge and practice in civil infrastructure, the Postgraduate Certificate in Civil Engineering (PGCertCivilEng) is an ideal qualification for those wanting an advanced background in designing and managing civil engineering projects.
The PGCertCivilEng can be awarded unendorsed, or endorsed in:
- Construction Management
- Earthquake Engineering
- Renewable Energy
- Transportation Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Structural Fire Engineering
- Water Engineering

Those that have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours or a Bachelor of Science with Honours in a relevant subject may be admitted to the programme with approval.
If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

How to apply

The Postgraduate Certificate in Civil Engineering includes 60 points (four courses), and can be awarded unendorsed or with an endorsement in a specialised area of civil engineering. It can be completed in 6 months full-time, or up to 2 years part-time.
Before completing the Certificate with an endorsement, you must first complete 30 points (two courses) from Part I of your preferred endorsement subject. Entry into the endorsement is then subject to GPA level and approval from the programme coordinator. Once approved, you will need to complete 15 points (one course) from Part II of your subject endorsement. The remaining 15 points can be chosen from the prescribed list of civil engineering topics.
Students that want to complete their certificate unendorsed, or are unable to get into their endorsement, can complete their 60 points (four courses) from the prescribed list of civil engineering topics.
The PGCertCivilEng can be awarded unendorsed, or endorsed in:

Courses towards an endorsement subject are listed in Schedule S to the Master of Civil Engineering. You will need to complete two courses from Part I of your endorsement before gaining approval to continue. Once approved for your endorsement, you will complete one course from Part II. The remaining 15 points can be chosen from the courses listed in Schedule E to the Master of Civil Engineering.
Courses for the unendorsed option (up to 60 points) are chosen from Schedule E to the Master of Civil Engineering.
Graduates of the PGCertCivilEng have a number of qualifications they continue on to at UC:
Graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Civil Engineering will offer employers more specialist knowledge in civil engineering, for example in transport, fire, water, construction, and geotechnical areas in industry. They will be well suited to advanced practice, or even research in these areas.
