Postgraduate Diploma in Literacy in Education

Gain specialised knowledge around the theory of and research into literacy development, learning, and teaching across different cultural and educational contexts.  

You will examine issues and inequities in literacy education, learn to analyse problems and pose solutions, advocate for those who need it, and drive innovation and change within the education sector in Aotearoa New Zealand, and internationally.

  • Explore global literacy instructional practices.
  • Examine how reading and writing are developed within different contexts and across different written languages.  
  • Develop specialised knowledge of theory and research in literacy development, learning, and teaching.  

Postgraduate Diploma in Literacy in Education

To enrol in the PGDipLitEd at UC you must hold an approved Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field of study, with a B average or higher.

Postgraduate Diploma in Literacy in Education

The PGDipLitEd is made up of 120 points of courses, which includes 90 points of compulsory courses and 30 points of elective courses. 

Beginning in either February or July, the Diploma will take 1 year of full-time study, or up to 3 years part-time. 

If you are interested in continuing with your postgraduate study, you can apply for entry to the Master of Literacy in Education.

Postgraduate Diploma in Literacy in Education

With an advanced knowledge of theory, research, and practice in both early childhood education and the use of digital technologies therein, graduates of the Master of Early Childhood Education Digital Pedagogy may seek employment in specialist early childhood education, learning design, or learning support roles.

Graduates may also find opportunities in research settings, early childhood education leadership or education-related organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.
