Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education

The Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education at UC is designed for teachers, learning support professionals, those in educational leadership positions and other education professionals who wish to advance their knowledge and skills in relation to inclusion and diversity in education. 

Through the study of a wide range of topics including special education, social justice and equity, reading development, dyslexia, and autism, you will learn to critically examine significant issues related to inclusive and culturally responsive education in Aotearoa New Zealand, and how to apply this knowledge to your teaching practice. 

Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education

  • Blend of in-person and online learning. 
  • Gain in depth knowledge of research into education systems, policies, and inclusive education. 
  • Develop a critical appreciation of discrimination and structural inequalities in society. 
  • Learn to effectively address Aotearoa New Zealand's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi in education contexts. 

Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education

To be considered for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education, you must have an approved bachelor's degree in Education or a related field of study, with at least a B grade average (or other equivalent qualifications).

Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive Education

The PGDipIE consists of 120 points of coursework, including 90 points of compulsory courses. The remaining 30 points is chosen from a list of elective courses, which can either be studied completely online or through a mix of online and in-person study.

Beginning in February or July, the Diploma will take 1 year full-time or up to 3 years part-time to complete.

If you are interested in continuing with your postgraduate study, you can apply for entry to the Master of Inclusive Education.
