Master of Inclusive Education
The Master of Inclusive Education is designed for teachers, learning support professionals, those in educational leadership positions and other interested education professionals who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in relation to inclusion and diversity in education.
The programme supports a view of inclusive education as an on-going process that involves recognising diversity and difference in affirming ways and taking steps to ensure that every learner is receiving an education that is responsive to their needs. Graduates of the programme will develop advanced knowledge of theories, research and practices that support inclusive and culturally responsive education.
Master of Inclusive Education
- Develop your professional knowledge and practice.
- Critically examine significant issues related to inclusive and culturally responsive education.
- Learn to effectively address Aotearoa New Zealand's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi in education contexts.
- Option of completing a coursework pathway or a research dissertation.
- A blended mix of in-person and online learning.
Master of Inclusive Education
To be considered for admission into the Master of Inclusive Education, you must have an approved bachelor's degree in Education or a related field of study, with at least a B grade average (or other equivalent qualifications).

Master of Inclusive Education
The Master of Inclusive Education comprises 180 points. This includes 90 points of compulsory courses and 90 points from one of the following options:
- 90 points of elective courses; or
- 90 points of research methods and a dissertation – this pathway is subject to approval by the Programme Coordinator.
Within the 180 points, a minimum of 45 points of Level 9 study is required.
Beginning in February, July, or November, the MIE will take up to 1.5 years full-time or up to 4 years part-time to complete.

Coursework or research pathway
For the coursework pathway, choose three courses from these options:

For the dissertation pathway, complete all the following:
If you have completed your MIE degree through the dissertation pathway with at least a B+ grade average, you may be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Master of Inclusive Education
Graduates of the Master of Inclusive Education will be equipped to contribute to the education sector within early childhood, primary, secondary, and tertiary settings, as well as related government and non-government organisations.
The advanced skills developed through this qualification will also allow for opportunities or further development in education leadership, research, policy and advisory, or special education roles in Aotearoa and overseas.
