Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership

Strengthen your professional leadership practice with a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership. The PGDipEdLd at UC is for existing teachers, middle and senior education leaders, aspiring principals, learning support professionals, and other education practitioners looking to enhance their leadership knowledge and understanding of leadership theory. 

Through a combination of online and in-person study, you will examine and critique leadership and management frameworks, ethical principles, and organisational structures, enabling you to design and implement sustainable change initiatives for complex organisational challenges in education.  

Become an ethical, socially just education leader with the skills to strengthen educational communities and promote equitable learning outcomes.

Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership

  • Study leadership theory, mentoring and coaching practice, organisational decision-making, and change management. 
  • Learn to address Aotearoa New Zealand’s obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi within educational and organisational leadership contexts. 
  • Develop knowledge of Māori leadership models, organisational structures, tikanga and relational approaches to leadership. 
  • Elective courses in a variety of topics including Pacific education, structured literacy, reading development, literacy difficulties, and more.  

Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership

To apply to the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, you will need to hold an Aotearoa New Zealand bachelor’s degree in Education or a related discipline with at least a B grade point average (or equivalent qualifications).

Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership

The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership at UC is made up of 120 points in courses, which includes three compulsory courses and one elective course chosen from a range of topics.

Beginning in February, July, or November, the Diploma will take 1 year full-time or up to 3 years part-time.

If you are interested in continuing with your postgraduate study, you can apply for entry to the Master of Educational Leadership.

Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership

Completing the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership at UC will prepare you for leadership roles in the education sector, from early childhood centres to schools, tertiary institutions, and research settings. 

Graduates may also seek employment in government and non-government organisations, learning support and educational development roles, or policy and professional development roles.
