Transfer of Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning

22 November 2023

You can apply to have credits from another university or institution transferred towards a qualification at UC or prior learning recognised.

HOW TO APPLY

Transfer of credit

If you have completed study at another tertiary institute in New Zealand or overseas, you can apply to have the credit transferred to a UC qualification.

Only study completed in the last five years will normally be considered and must be from a qualification that has not been conferred.

Credit transfers are not automatic. Applications are reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis. If your application is not successful, you have the option to appeal the decision.

Cross-credit

'Cross-credit' is when credit is shared between an undergraduate qualification that has been conferred and a subsequent undergraduate qualification. The amount of credit that can be cross-credited is limited by the points value of each qualification.

Transferring credit from UC to another institution

If you would like to transfer credits you have completed at UC to another institution, please get in touch with the relevant institution and follow their credit transfer application process.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you’ve gained relevant knowledge or skills outside a tertiary institution and haven’t received formal credit for them, you can apply to have this learning recognised as credit towards a UC course.

Not all qualifications will accept RPL credit, so check with the relevant Faculty before applying.
