Student Accessibility Service
Any student enrolled at UC who has a disability, medical condition, specific learning difficulty, mental health condition or a temporary impairment that affects their ability to study is eligible to register with Te Ratonga Whaikaha|Student Accessibility Service.
Special arrangements may involve:
- Using a reader and/or writer
- An extension of time
- Wheelchair accessible rooms
- Use of a computer
- Ergonomic furniture etc.
Students enrolled with Te Ratonga Whaikaha will have their special arrangements for exams automatically organised. Any student who requires special arrangements will sit their exam in a room separate from the main cohort. The special arrangement room is confirmed in the Final Timetable emailed to students on the last day of term.
How to apply
To apply for special arrangements for examinations, you must register with Te Ratonga Whaikaha|Student Accessibility Service.
Temporary impairments or temporary medical conditions
If a student has a temporary impairment or medical condition in the lead up to tests/examinations and they believe they need special arrangements, contact Te Ratonga Whaikaha. If it is 5 working days (or less) prior to the assessment, please apply for Special Consideration.
Internal assessments
If students require special arrangements for internal assessments (tests/quizzes etc.), they must register with Te Ratonga Whaikaha|Student Accessibility Service.
Arrangements for students enrolled with Te Ratonga Whaikaha are automatically organised for tests that are formally scheduled in a course timetable (detailed in CIS). If a test/quiz is not formally scheduled in a course timetable, to receive their arrangements students must notify the Examinations Office 10 workings days prior to the assessment.
If a student decides not to or cannot sit a quiz/test or exam in the specially arranged room, they must contact their Accessibility Advisor or the Examinations Office (examinations@canterbury.ac.nz) in advance or as early as possible. Failure to do so may result in a fine.
