Accelerate your UC research from proof-of-concept to commercial impact.
Applications are now open for UC Ignition Funding, the University of Canterbury's commercialisation challenge for researchers and PhD students. A total of $60,000 will be awarded across three $20,000 prizes, helping turn early-stage research into technology that's ready for the market.
Entries are judged by a panel of local entrepreneurs and UC staff with a track record of innovation.
Submissions close 25th September 2026
Open to UC Academic Staff member or UC Postgraduate Students, with the support of a UC supervisor.
You don't need to be applying to UC Ignition to come along - these three workshops are open to anyone interested in commercialisation or translational research funding.

We're exploring ways for more people to take part in the UC Innovation Showcase beyond the funded finalists presenting on stage - for example, through a poster or booth. Details are still being finalised, but if you are interested in showcasing your innovation without participating in UC Ignition Funding, please register your interest below and we'll be in touch as plans firm up.
Winners should be ready to begin their project on receipt of funding, and committed to supporting the ongoing commercial development of their innovation.
