UC's chemical and process engineering researchers are involved in cutting-edge industries including pharmaceuticals, environmental management, energy production and management, waste processing, alternative fuel production, and nanotechnology. Current research includes novel emission control processes and control of dairy processes.

The Biomolecular Interactions Centre (BIC), founded at UC, is dedicated to the study of molecular interactions critical to biological functioning. BIC includes researchers from the Colleges of Science and Engineering and has a growing network of collaborators in New Zealand and internationally.
