UC researchers investigate the complex relationships between species, habitats and environmental change, generating the knowledge needed to conserve biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems and strengthen ecological resilience.

Working across terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine environments, they monitor ecosystem health, develop innovative conservation and restoration approaches, and partner with communities, Māori, industry and government agencies to support sustainable environmental management.

This research helps safeguard native species and ecological processes, supports evidence-based policy and practice, and contributes to thriving ecosystems that underpin environmental, cultural, social and economic wellbeing.
