UC MAPS (Mentoring and Peer Support)

23 November 2023

UC MAPS is all about helping students find their place, whether that is on campus, in the community, or within themselves. Through small-group mentoring sessions, students connect, share experiences, and support one another in a relaxed and authentic space. These sessions focus on community, reflection, and personal growth rather than academic tutoring and are open to all students seeking connection, confidence, and belonging at UC.

HOW TO APPLY

Starting university is an exciting adventure, but it can also feel overwhelming. From getting to know campus to finding your community, there’s a lot to adjust to. That’s where UC Mentors come in, experienced students who have been through it all and are here to help you feel at home.

UC Mentors are second-year students or above who understand what it’s like to start university. They can answer your questions, share their experiences, and help you connect with people, places, and opportunities on campus. Whether it’s discovering social groups, finding your favourite spots, or pointing you toward support services, they are here to help you find your place at UC.

Explore other peer support options designed to suit your needs. UC offers a range of initiatives, each providing support through different perspectives and catering to the diverse experiences of our students.

In addition to UC MAPS and other UC-led initiatives, students can explore programmes run by UCSA, the University of Canterbury Students’ Association.

UCSA Pathseekers Programme

The Pathseekers Programme is a peer support programme where knowledgeable students are paired up with any students who want support from a peer.
