Bing Dawe

Bing (Brian) Dawe was born in Oamaru in 1952, and studied at the University of Canterbury, graduating with a Diploma in Fine Arts in 1976. Dawe has worked with several mediums in sculpture, as well as in other forms of visual and graphic art. In 1999 he was the winner of the Wallace Visa Gold Art Award, and his works appear in a number of galleries and major collections around New Zealand. Dawe worked with Ria Bancroft, another artist featured in the sculpture trail, on a project for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Christchurch. Currently, Dawe teaches visual arts at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.
