Sociologists investigate the structure of societies, organisations and groups. Their subject matter ranges from the intimacy of the family, the criminal gang, activities at the rugby game and rock festival, through to divisions of ethnicity, gender and class. This involves study, discussion, analysis, critique and debate about how people, cultures, societies and ideas interact and impact upon each other.

UC will introduce you to social and cultural anthropology, which is related to human geography, history, indigenous studies, linguistics, philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology. This kind of anthropology employs a research method called ethnography. Ethnographic researchers immerse themselves in the activities and relationships of everyday life.
