The programme, which ran from 23 January to 3 February, gave the students the chance to experience life at UC while building the skills needed to study, work and connect across cultures. The programme was supported by a fantastic cohort of UC staff and current UC students, who acted as ambassadors and mentors to our visitors, greatly enhancing their experience in Christchurch.
Over those two weeks, the students took part in immersive learning experiences that encouraged cultural exchange, new friendships and fresh perspectives. From classroom discussions to hands-on activities, the programme created opportunities to explore what it means to live and learn in a truly global community.
The students built global confidence, strengthened communication skills and practised creative problem-solving – qualities that are increasingly important in today’s interconnected world. The programme also emphasised sustainability, inclusivity and global responsibility, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Supported by our Faculties of Science, Education, Arts, Engineering and Business School, alongside UC’s HIT Lab, UC Centre for Entrepreneurship and Global Engagement teams, who facilitated the visit, the programme reflects UC’s commitment to international learning and to creating a campus shaped by curiosity, cultural respect and shared understanding.
Current UC students interested in supporting future programmes and helping with operations are encouraged to submit an expression of interest by emailing partnerships@canterbury.ac.nz.
