UC tops education sector in employer brand results

11 September 2026

UC has been named the most attractive employer in New Zealand’s education sector in the 2026 Randstad Employer Brand Research.

HOW TO APPLY

The annual global study measures how workers and job seekers perceive employers and what they value most when choosing where to work.

Education was ranked the second-most attractive sector overall in New Zealand this year, behind professional services, with Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) taking the top position among education employers.

UC also performed strongly when compared with New Zealand’s leading employers across all sectors, sitting just 0.1 percentage points outside the country’s top 10 most attractive organisations.

The results are based on the perceptions of people outside UC and assess employers against 12 key drivers that influence where people want to work.

UC ranked either first or second among education employers in nine of those 12 areas, including work-life balance, career progression, equal opportunities, job security, reputation, leadership and interesting work.

The result reflects UC’s growing profile as an employer and ongoing work to showcase the opportunities available at the University for research, teaching and professional services.

It also comes as Ōtautahi Christchurch continues to build its reputation as an attractive place to live, work and develop a career, supporting UC’s ability to attract talented people from across Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.

The Randstad Employer Brand Research is conducted across 34 markets and surveys workers and job seekers aged from 18 through to retirement, providing insights into employer attractiveness and the factors people consider when choosing an organisation to work for.
