Geography is ranked in the top 50 globally and first in New Zealand. Civil and Structural Engineering, Linguistics, and Hospitality and Leisure Management all placed in the top 100 globally.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Lucy Johnston says the results highlight UC’s strengths. “Across our university, our researchers are working with communities and industry to address real-world challenges, while our teaching is designed to be accessible, flexible and research-led.”
The results recognise UC’s strengths across environmental and urban systems, infrastructure, language and communication, and tourism.
The QS Subject Rankings assess universities worldwide based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject assess universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The 2026 rankings evaluate more than 18,300 programmes across 55 disciplines at over 1,700 universities worldwide.
