After Hours Health Care

If you need medical care outside of our opening hours, there are a number of places you can seek advice and support

HOW TO APPLY
In an emergency, call 111 or go to the Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital. 

Medical emergencies include: chest pain or tightness, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding or bleeding that won't stop, sudden weakness or difficulty talking, fainting or unconsciousness

After-hours, your call will be transferred to Whakarongorau Aotearoa/NZ Telehealth Services, where trained nurses answer 24hours a day - this service is free. They can give advice and/or direct patients to clinics who see our patients after-hours.

A free over-the-phone health service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you or someone in your family is unwell., you can call Healthline and speak to experienced nurses and paramedics for health advice and information about what to do next. 


For non-urgent doctor appointments we suggest trying to book with your usual doctor first but if they are not avaible, there is a variety of telephone/online options. Urgent Care/After Hours Clinics: 

Riccarton Clinic

A walk in urgent care clinic open everyday of the year from 8:00am until 8:00pm seeing injury, accident and illness that requires urgent medical care. No appoinments necessary. A small discount is available for University of Canterbury students. See their website for costs. Loacted at 4 Yaldhurst Road, Upper Riccarton, Christchurch. 

The Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital

For critical or life-threatening emergencies. Free of charge for New Zealand residents. Located at Christchurch Hospital, Riccarton Avenue, Christchurch. 

24 Hour Surgery

A walk- in urgent care clinic open 24 hours a day, seven days a week seeing injuries, accidents and illnesses needing urgent medical attention. Patients are assessed on arrival and see in order of medical priority. See their website for costs. Located at 401 Madras Street, Christchurch Central.
