Instructions to Enable Live Captions

To enable live captions while watching Echo360 lecture videos in your browser, please follow the instructions below.

Google Chrome

Chrome includes a built-in Live Caption feature that automatically generates captions for videos, podcasts, livestreams, and other audio playing in the browser. Audio processing happens locally on your device.

1. Open Chrome
2. Click ⋮ (Settings and more) → Settings
3. Select Accessibility
4. Turn on Live Caption
5. Chrome may download speech recognition files the first time you enable it.

Microsoft Edge

Depending on your version of Edge and Windows, captions may be provided either through Edge's accessibility settings or Windows Live Captions. Microsoft also recommends using Windows 11 Live Captions, which works across applications.

Option 1: Windows Live Captions (Recommended)

1. Press Windows + Ctrl + L
2. Allow Windows to download language files if prompted
3. Start playing your video
4. Captions appear automatically.

Option 2: Edge Browser Captions (if available)

1. Open Edge
2. Go to Settings
3. Select Accessibility
4. Enable Live Captions.

Safari (Mac)

Safari itself does not provide a separate live-caption feature. Instead, use macOS Live Captions, which works across Safari and other apps. Live Captions is available on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, etc.). [support.apple.com]

macOS

1. Open Apple Menu → System Settings
2. Select Accessibility
3. Click Live Captions
4. Turn Live Captions on
5. Play a video in Safari.

Firefox

Firefox currently does not have a built-in live caption feature comparable to Chrome's Live Caption. Mozilla users have requested this capability, but it is not part of Firefox's standard features.

Alternatives

• Use Windows Live Captions (Windows 11) for Firefox videos.
• Use macOS Live Captions when watching videos in Firefox on a Mac.
