Suicide clustering in small communities

22 May 2026

Host Faculty: Engineering

General Subject Area: Statistics

Project Level: Master's

HOW TO APPLY

The phenomenon of suicide clustering is poorly understood. One leading theory is that the incidence of suicide leads to perceptions that it is a normative behaviour among peers. Shifts in normative perceptions then correspond with increased risk across a social group or community.

Using administrative data (a database called the Integrated Data Infrastructure), we can investigate causes of death and understand how risk changes over time for a community.

This project will involve careful spatiotemporal modelling and data engineering using R and SQL.
