UC Library is pleased to announce the publication of Humanitarian Engineering: Fundamentals, Exercises, and Applications, a free and open-access resource textbook edited by Bryann Avendaño-Uribe, PhD.
This book is designed as an academic and applied resource for humanitarian engineering practitioners, students, and educators, as well as for entrepreneurs and communities working in humanitarian and development contexts. It approaches humanitarian engineering as a socio-technical practice, integrating theoretical foundations, practical exercises, and applied case studies, with a strong emphasis on ethics, case studies, and hands-on exercises to support teaching, research and professional practice.
As an open-access publication, the book is freely available for distribution and educational use. It is also intended as a living resource, open to future editions, and to contribute to the continued development of a growing field that calls for socially responsible engineering professionals.
UC staff interested in publishing an open textbook or other open educational resource (OER) can find out more from the Library's Open Textbooks subject guide or by contacting the Open Education Librarian directly.
