UC Volunteering Expo connects campus with community

05 August 2025

The UC Volunteering Expo links students and staff with local not-for-profits, inspiring community connection and impact.

HOW TO APPLY

The University of Canterbury’s 2025 Volunteering Expo brought community connection to the Ilam campus this week, as many not-for-profit organisations (NFPs) showcased ways for UC students and staff to make a positive difference.

Connecting with Ōtautahi and Waitaha

Organisations from across Ōtautahi Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury shared a wide range of opportunities, from one-off projects to ongoing volunteer roles. Students gained the chance to build their CVs, develop transferable skills, and contribute to the UC Graduate Profile, while staff explored meaningful ways to support local initiatives.

A collaborative effort for positive impact

The annual Expo is a partnership between UC Careers and Volunteering Canterbury. It reflects UC’s Strategic Vision 2020–2030, which emphasises community engagement and active citizenship, empowering students and staff to make a positive difference locally and globally.

Volunteering continues to be a valued part of the UC experience, offering students opportunities to grow beyond the classroom. The Expo allows not-for-profit organisations to connect with the next generation of volunteers, while students, including many international students, can integrate into the community and gain real-world experience.
