Big news for anyone using Elsevier journals: from 31 December 2025, UC Library’s Read and Publish deal with Elsevier ends. What does that mean for you?
✅ Still good news:
You’ll keep access to many Elsevier articles published up to the end of 2025.
⚠️ What’s changing:
New Elsevier articles from 2026 won’t be instantly available through ScienceDirect.
Here’s how to stay ahead:
- Find free versions fast: Use tools like Unpaywall, EndNote Click, or EBSCOhost Passport.
- Need an article? Request it via Interlibrary Loan (usually 1–7 days).
- Explore open access: Check repositories like UC Research Repository, OpenDOAR, or ROAR.
Teaching links?
If you find broken Elsevier links in Ako|Learn, the Library can help replace or find alternative articles.
Publishing your work?
- Deposit in UC Research Repository.
- Discover diamond open access journals via DOAJ.
- UC still has prepaid deals with other publishers: ask your subject librarian for advice.
