Aotearoa New Zealand’s Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) national campaign has shifted to 6–12 October. As part of MHAW 2025, we are running a series of events in a lead up to the official MHAW to support our diverse community to get involved, try something new and connect with others.

Mental health is a cornerstone of overall wellbeing, influencing how we think, feel, and connect with others.

September 22 – October 12: Free Yoga, UC RecCentre

UC Rec&Sport invites UC students to take a moment to move, breathe, and connect, with themselves and someone they care about for free.
Students can book their spot via the Rec&Sport app for any of the classes listed below. If they want to invite someone as well the person will need to create a guest account to enter the RecCentre, which can be done online or in person.

--7am Tuesdays & Thursdays

--12:05pm Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays

September 22: Kava Session and Talanoa, The Living Room

Kava is a shared tradition throughout the Pacific, and often at the centre of talanoa between friends. If you are keen to try kava and have some interesting conversations then come along! All students are welcomed to join a kava session hosted by UC Pacific. This relaxed session runs from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, offering time to connect, and partake in Pacific culture.

22-26 September: Low Sensory Crafting, Te Rua Makerspace

Take a break and unwind during the Low Sensory Hour at Te Rua Makerspace, running 10:00 am to 11:00 am each day. This quieter crafting session reduces noise, lighting, and other distractions, giving you a calm space to create, focus, and relax. All makers are welcome to enjoy crafting at their own pace in a supportive environment.

September 23: Mindful Makes, The Living Room

In collaboration with Reframe Wānanga, students are invited to get creative while enjoying kōrero with peers. Make friendship bracelets, sensory keychains, and more from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, all in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

September 23-26: Run72, C-Block Lawn

Everyone is welcome to participate in the Run72 event on C-Block Lawn. Whether you’re aiming for a fast pace, a gentle roll, or simply enjoying movement at your own speed, this three-day event is a great way to get moving.

September 29: Rainbow Café, The Living Room

A welcoming space for Rainbow students and allies to connect, make friends, and meet peers. Join us for a relaxed gathering to share kōrero and build community.

30 September: Calendula Balm Workshop

Staff and students are invited to learn how to make calendula balm, known for its antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. Participants can take some balm home (first come, first served), so bring a small, sterilised tin or jar if possible. This is an outdoor event, so please dress for the weather.

3 October: International collab, The Living Room

In collaboration with the UC Global Leaders team students can learn how to make Kueh Nagasari. This workshop is a fun way to connect, learn, and enjoy tasty food together.

6 October: Pronoun Pin Crafting, Te Rua Makerspace

Join the Rainbow Cafe team and make your own pronoun badge in Te Rua Makerspace! Participate in colouring and crafting while enjoying kai, and chats with other Rainbow students and allies.

7 October: Wishing Star Wānanga, The Living Room

Join Reframe Wānanga facilitators to create a unique clay character inside a jar filled with fairy lights. While crafting, students can engage in guided wellbeing kōrero from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, making this a mindful and creative space to relax, reflect, and connect with others. Registrations are required, please find the link through our socials

7 October: Ruawhetū, Undercroft in Puaka James-Hight

Ruawhetū is all about celebrating wellbeing, Māori style. Come along to connect, chill, and check out the different ways hauora (health and wellbeing) can be looked after. From mirimiri and rongoā to wairua, whānau ora, or just hanging out. Starting from 10am and finishing at 2pm, use this chance to explore services, learn something new, and reflect on your own wellbeing through a Māori lens. Bring your mates and see what it’s all about!

10 October: Calling all Adult Students, The Living Room

Adult students are invited to join their peers for kai & kōrero from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. This is a relaxed opportunity to connect, chat, and enjoy a snack with fellow adult learners.
