Resolving concerns

28 July 2025

As a research student at UC rest assured that we have a robust support system in place to assist you every step of your journey. UC has dedicated support services, policies and processes in place to help you navigate any concerns or issues that may arise.

HOW TO APPLY
Key Support Services for Students
Resolving supervision issues

If you encounter any difficulties during your studies, including dissatisfaction with your supervision, you are encouraged to initially discuss these with your supervisors.

If you feel that issues cannot be directly raised with your supervisors or you remain dissatisfied after doing so, then you should contact your Departmental Graduate Research Coordinator (Graduate Research Coordinator List) to discuss your situation.

Alternatively, or if you are still dissatisfied, please make an appointment with a kaitoko | Research Student Advisor at Te Kura Tāura who can provide additional support and connect you to specialist services available at UC.

Bullying and harrassment

Te Kura Tāura | UC Graduate School is committed to fostering an inclusive campus environment where all members of the UC campus community are treated with respect and civility.

We all play a part in promoting a safe campus environment. To achieve this goal, we need to work collaboratively and start with developing a good understanding of what constitutes bullying and harassment at UC and actively discourage these types of behaviour when they occur.

Bullying and harassment can happen between students and between a student and a staff member. These types of undesirable behaviour could range from unpleasant remarks about a person’s physical characteristics to breaching UC staff and/or student conduct codes or even breaking the law. When this occurs, students can raise a concern informally or formally, or lodge a formal complaint to have the matter investigated.

We encourage students to seek advice immediately when they feel bullied or harassed. Depending on the circumstances, students can reach out to their supervisors or the Graduate Research Coordinator within their department if they feel comfortable doing so. Alternatively, students can contact Grievance & Academic Processes Advisors or an independent Advocate at the UCSA Advocacy & Welfare team
