We estimate that between 20-25% of students at the University have some form of visible or invisible disability, and Te Ratonga Whaikaha|Student Accessibility Service (TRW|SAS) is here to provide support services, assistance, and advice to ensure that you make the most of your time here and achieve your academic goals.
Te Ratonga Whaikaha|Student Accessibility Service offers a large number of supports to our registered students based on the evidence provided including:
- Practical support (eg, interpreters, notetakers)
- Assistive technology (eg, screen reading, voice recognition software, Otter transcriptions)
- Information in alternate and accessible formats (eg, electronic, braille)
- Special arrangements for exams (eg, extra time, separate room, reader/writer)
Any student enrolled in an assessed course, who has a disability, medical condition, specific learning difficulty, mental health condition or a temporary impairment that affects their ability to study is eligible to register with TRW|SAS at any stage of the academic year.
There is now an Accessibility Advisor located in Puaka James Hight library, in the Academic Skills Centre on level 3.
They are available for drop-in meetings Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 12pm.
