Since graduating from UC, Tyrone Elkington-MacDonald saw his sporting dreams come to life. He spent six seasons playing premier rugby, first for Hawke’s Bay, then as the first five-eighth for Auckland. In 2018 he moved to France to play for Biarritz Olympique in the French ProD2 Rugby Competition.

Now based in Auckland he is the Sport Development Manager at Harbour Sport where he is responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing a robust and effective sporting system in the Harbour region. His focus is on the development, sustainability and capability for the future of sport, particularly at the grassroots level.

“My role at Harbour Sport allows me to connect with the sector to share insights, local knowledge and best practice principles to maintain an effective sporting system. Through an evidence based-locally led approach, I strive to meet the current and future needs of sport and recreation through leadership, advocacy, and passion to see sport thrive in all facets.”

Driven by a desire for personal growth and achievement, Tyrone is also focused on what he can do for others.

“I get a lot of joy out of making my family and teammates proud. When I’m out there being a leader in the field, getting everything right and seeing the boys feed off that, then I know I'm doing my job.”
