Former Chief Executive of the Cancer Society

HOW TO APPLY

Liz Chesterman’s career has been focussed on giving back to the community. She has been the Chief Executive at the Cancer Society for the past 20 years and prior to this she was the National Director for Alzheimers New Zealand.

Her compassion and strategic leadership at the Cancer Society has raised the charity’s profile within the community, and she also shares these skills with other NGO’s, service groups and health organisations.

In 2014 she was awarded the New Year Honour – ONZM for her service to the Cancer Society, particularly in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes, where she continues to advocate, fundraise and deliver exceptional support to cancer patients and their families in the Canterbury & West Coast region.

Liz just recently announced her retirement from the Cancer Society, which was a really difficult but timely decision to make. "I did not ever set out to be the Chief Executive of the Cancer Society, but the last 20 years in that role have been a privilege and a passion, and one that still provides new learnings and understandings every day."
