Responsible research

Conducting thesis research responsibly is crucial for maintaining the integrity and credibility of your scholarly work. Familiarising yourself with and adhering to relevant regulations, policies, and processes—such as those concerning ethics, Māori consultation, intellectual property, copyright, and the use of AI tools—is a crucial part of the research journey.

HOW TO APPLY
A responsible approach to research

Under the Research Student Supervision Policy, students are required to uphold academic integrity and abide by ethical research practice. This ensures that findings are accurate, reproducible, and ethically sound, which is essential for advancing knowledge.

In Aotearoa New Zealand consulting with Māori throughout the research process is also vital to ensure research respects and incorporates indigenous perspectives and knowledge where applicable. 

IIt is important to be aware of all requirements as well as best practice with regards to responsible research before you embark on your research project.

Follow the steps below and explore the different components that make up responsible research. 

Step One

Complete the Academic Integrity Module on AKO | LEARN to familiarise yourself with policies and processes at UC.

Step Two

Discuss IP and/or Copyright when completing the Supervisory Agreement and familiarise yourself with UC's policies: 

Step Three

Determine whether your research requires ethics approval and/or Māori consultation. 

Step Four

Familiarise yourself with UC's proofreading and editing guidelines and learn how to responsibly incorporate AI  into your research .
