Assistive Technology (AT) is a term used for computer software or specialist equipment that allows you to improve, maintain, or increase the quality and consistency of your work.

Assistive technology provides tools for accessing information, creating and presenting digital content, and undertaking research on your computer. 

Examples of assistive technology include learning support software for reading, understanding, and recall; text-to-speech software; screen enlarging software; alternative-output hardware; large-print keyboards; as well as alternative tracking devices.

Students and staff of the University of Canterbury can access and use all the available assistive technology tools.

The Assistive Technology Team offers regular workshops, including group and individualised 1-on-1 training sessions to give you an opportunity to have a hands-on experience.

Some proprietary learning support software, like Read&Write and Equatio, can be installed on personal devices. Other applications can be accessed in the assistive technology resource areas on campus.

Yes, the AT team at the University of Canterbury is able to convert and provide course material in alternate formats that include screen-readable text, video captions, audio transcripts, Braille, and tactile graphics.
