Your degree should feel like yours: a guide to academic integrity

28 September 2026

What academic integrity means as exams and assessments approach.

HOW TO APPLY

The countdown is on for the end of semester two and that means final assignments and exam preparations.

It’s a good time to refresh your understanding of academic integrity - what it means, what is needed, and how it impacts the way you work.

So, what does academic integrity mean?

It means completing your work honestly, fairly, ethically and responsibly, and taking pride in earning your qualification through your own efforts. It’s your responsibility as a UC student to uphold these standards in all of your work.

What academic integrity looks like in practice

  • Take personal responsibility for your learning and submit work that is your own.

  • To avoid plagiarism, make sure you acknowledge other people’s ideas and use the referencing style recommended by your lecturer or department on AKO | LEARN.

  • Contribute fairly and honestly when working as part of a team. When everyone contributes and supports each other, the whole group benefits.

Academic Integrity and exam preparation

Before your exams, check how they will run, what you’re allowed to bring and the rules you need to follow. Keep an eye out for exam information and reminders, and check the official exam instructions before exam day.

Remember:

  • Only bring materials and devices that are permitted for your exam. We have recently updated the list of devices not permitted in exams, so make sure to check it out.

  • Complete your exam independently unless you have been specifically told otherwise.

  • Don’t communicate with other students during an exam or share exam content with students who have not yet sat it.

  • If you’re unsure about rules, or what is allowed, ask before the exam starts.

Academic dishonesty can have serious consequences. Making good choices, checking the rules and asking when you’re unsure protects your integrity and helps ensure your qualification reflects your own knowledge, skills and effort.
