Influenced by William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, this beautiful wallpaper design was created by Chrystabel Aitken. Aitken attended Canterbury College School of Art in the 1920s and was tutored in painting, modelling, design, needlework and silversmithing. Her strength in decorative design epitomised the ubiquitous influence of the Arts and Crafts movement in New Zealand's art schools.
This design also features as one of the online jigsaw puzzles created from items held in the Macmillan Brown Library art and archives collections, http://kohika.canterbury.ac.nz/puzzles.html
