From study to impact: UC Autumn Graduation Celebrations

17 April 2026

Congratulations to all our students who celebrated their graduation this week.

HOW TO APPLY

This year’s Autumn Graduation Celebrations mark an important milestone as Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) graduates take their next steps into careers, further study and new opportunities. From undergraduate through to doctoral level, this cohort reflects a wide range of pathways, including those who have studied flexibly through UC Online across Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.

Our graduates join a global community of more than 150,000 UC alumni, making an impact economically, socially and culturally. Many are already contributing across areas such as nursing, teaching, engineering, finance and international relations, highlighting the strength of UC’s focus on real-world outcomes - read more about their impact here>
UC is ranked #2 in New Zealand for employment outcomes (2026 QS World University Rankings), with many graduates choosing to stay and work in Christchurch and surrounding regions.

A highlight of the week was the graduation street parade through the central city, bringing graduates, friends and whānau together in visible celebration. It’s a positive moment for Christchurch, drawing people into the city and reinforcing the strong connection between UC and the wider community.

This year also marks several firsts, including cohorts from new programmes and scholarship recipients supporting leadership, health and education.
