With the UC Motorsport team regularly making headlines for their global success and innovation, Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) Engineering students are no strangers to the world of fast cars and innovation.
Founded by David Dicker in 2016, Rodin Cars is another Canterbury Motorsport venture making waves in this globally lucrative industry. A lifelong enthusiast with a deep passion for high-performance engineering, Dicker’s vision is to build a vehicle that can outperform current Formula One cars.
But Rodin’s pursuit of excellence extends beyond building exceptional cars. Rodin is committed to supporting others to perform at their best, whether in motorsport, education, or community engagement.
To demonstrate his commitment to nurturing that level of excellence, Dicker is sponsoring two new UC Engineering scholarship for undergraduate students.
The scholarship will ensure those with a passion for the industry are supported, regardless of their background. “New Zealand’s got the talent. We just need to back the ones who are willing to work for it. We are proud to invest in the next generation of engineers and look forward to their impact on the industry,” says David.
As the founder and former CEO of Dicker Data, David had some straightforward advice for students “If you don’t understand something, ask. Find someone who knows. But to grow you’ve got to love the work. Whether you’re on a racetrack or in a garage, you’ve got to want to be there.”
Faculty of Engineering Associate Dean Academic, Pedro Lee says this scholarship provides a brilliant opportunity for passionate students.
“This scholarship is another excellent example of the mutual drive to foster strong links between the Faculty of Engineering and the world-class NZ engineering industry. These scholarships allow our talented students to reach their full potential by providing financial support. We expect recipients of this award will be set to make a large positive impact on the industry in the future,” Professor Lee says.
