Industry Collaborations

FYP event 2018

Imagine what you could do if you had access to the most innovative and creative students, our future engineers or designers.

Our Final Year Projects are designed to enable businesses to

  • explore ideas with fresh minds,
  • access knowledge and equipment to develop prototypes, or
  • to prove theories that you may not have time to explore otherwise.

The College of Engineering Collaborate brochure has all the information.

  • Access the latest thinking and fresh talent in engineering, and design – at minimal cost.
  • Develop new knowledge originating from the student’s research project.
  • Build links between your business and UC to access additional R&D opportunities and support the College of Engineering to produce skilled graduates.
  • Develop students' technical skills and gain commercial experience.
  • Raise your business profile with future skilled graduates.

Industry projects for the Masters of Applied Data Science do not have to be funded. Where possible we do encourage that the company (partner) offer a payment to the student for the time they work on the project.

We recommend budgeting at least $2500 for this.

Industry project sponsorship costs for the School of Product Design are negotiated on a case by case basis, depending upon the project.

As a guide, we recommend budgeting $5000 for this.

Project outcomes typically include:

  • proof of concept or prototypes;
  • analysis;
  • feasibility studies; or,
  • test data.

Outputs include

  • progress reports,
  • a final report,
  • a presentation or a demonstration,
  • project meetings throughout the year.

Sponsors often say that their project provided an effective way to meet future recruits and it is quite common for students to subsequently become employed by their sponsor.

For our students, industry projects are a key element for their learning and development. The opportunity to work on real-world problems, and collaborate with real clients, is one of the final steps to ensuring our graduates are industry ready.
