This project offers the chance to conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis examining exercise and structured physical activity as a component of substance use disorder treatment. Working alongside
supervisors with expertise in forensic psychology and meta-analysis, you will learn the full workflow of a rigorous evidence synthesis: pre-registration, systematic database searching, PRISMA-based screening, data extraction, and the statistical methods used to pool findings across studies. These are highly transferable, sought-after research skills that provide an excellent foundation for Honours and further postgraduate study.
Beyond the methodology, you will deepen your knowledge in an applied area with real-world impact. The review forms the evidence base for future research developing exercise-based rehabilitation for people whose offending is linked to substance uses. Your work will directly shape a programme of applied forensic and rehabilitation research.
This role would suit a motivated student with an interest in clinical, health, or forensic psychology , and who is comfortable learning new skills relevant to statistics and coding. Prior meta-analysis experience is not required, but a curious, organised, and self-directed approach is.
