Equity Scholarships for International Students

04 September 2024

UC offers a number of scholarships for international students from a low-socio economic backgrounds.

HOW TO APPLY

There are often many barriers for students wishing to continue education at university level, and UC acknowledges that for students of developing countries, in particular, assistance may be required to get there.

To encourage these students and try to rectify possible imbalances, UC offers a number of equity-based scholarships available for international students.

Have a look through the list and also search our  scholarships database using the filters - e.g. your Level of Study, Faculty area,  and 'International Student'; to find other scholarships open to all International Students.

Applying for a scholarship

Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria (e.g. subject/course, level, citizenship, age, school, region, etc.) and may require different supporting documentation.

Check if you're eligible by reading the Regulations for each scholarship before you apply. If you are eligible, fill out the appropriate form online. Please note - you need to have created a myUC account prior to applying for any of these scholarships. See our 'How to apply' page for more details.

The Ah Nua Scholarship has had a profound impact on both my education and my personal journey. Coming from a third-world country and a community that often faces systemic barriers, I know how difficult it can be to access quality education and research opportunities.

Receiving this scholarship has lifted a major financial burden and allowed me to focus fully on my studies and development without the constant worry of affordability.

Beyond financial support, this scholarship has given me confidence and motivation. It reminds me that there are people who believe in the potential of students like me, and that encouragement is truly life changing.

Your generosity has opened doors that might otherwise have remained out of reach, and it inspires me to keep striving and to contribute meaningfully to my field and community. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.

"Being awarded the Manaaki Scholarship has been a life-changing opportunity. It allows me to pursue my Master’s in Water Science and Management in New Zealand, an interdisciplinary programme that combines hydrology, climate science, engineering, policy, and community engagement. These areas are critically needed in my home country, Timor-Leste, where communities are highly vulnerable to climate impacts and water insecurity. Gaining this knowledge is essential.

The Manaaki Scholarship has connected me to a global community where I have learned from others’ experiences, shared my own, and grown both professionally and personally.

I hope my journey inspires others to believe in their potential and apply, you never know how far one opportunity can take you."
