HOW TO APPLY

Study Teaching at UC

Many of our teacher education programmes offer flexible study options — study full-time or part-time, on campus in Ōtautahi Christchurch, or by distance from anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our subjects can help you decide which area to specialise in and our one-year graduate and postgraduate pathways are designed for those who already have a degree in another subject area and wish to move into teaching.

Bachelor’s degree pathway

If you don’t already have a degree, our undergraduate bachelor’s degree is your first step towards becoming a registered teacher.

One-year graduate and postgraduate pathways

If you already have a degree, you may be eligible to enter teaching via our one-year graduate programmes.

A graduate diploma is a level 7 qualification, while a postgraduate diploma is a level 8 qualification providing an opportunity to extend your knowledge further. A master's degree (a level 9 qualification) builds on the content from the postgraduate diploma with an additional research paper during Summer School (November-February) to further develop specialist skills.
