You may have noticed parts of the building are emerging above ground, with structural steel now being installed. Outdoor playing areas are also becoming more visible as work progresses.
Construction is currently focused on the central core of the building, which will house group fitness spaces, changing rooms, recovery areas and reception.
When complete, Takurua will be nearly twice the size of the current UC Recreation Centre. It is designed to support student wellbeing, sport and recreation.
Planned facilities include:
Two indoor sports courts
A main gym, women’s gym, and spin room
Multi-purpose rooms for group fitness, and mind and body
Dedicated bouldering wall
Health and wellbeing services
Student social spaces, including rest and recovery zones
Outdoor plaza, including basketball court and sprint track
Floodlit outdoor artificial pitch
Takurua is on track to open later next year.
