Geordie Hooft (Institute of Directors Canterbury Branch Chair), Edze Bierema, Ingemar Dierickx, Jules Haus and Libby Hughes at Ingemar’s negotiation dynamics workshop.
We asked each of the three students to share what they learnt about successful negotiation from the Institute of Directors’ workshop. Edze Bierema, CEO of entré, said “Ingemar spoke extensively on human nature and how this influences people's decisions. The workshop probed questions such as whether people can be expected to act to maximise total welfare or are intrinsically selfish, and how people decide on tradeoffs. Ingemar also shared some comical and relatable findings from experiments that he carried out on his students to try and answer these questions. The workshop was engaging and intriguing, a left me a little more aware as to how I can anticipate people to act in negotiations.”
Libby Hughes, from the UC Women in Business executive, told us that “studying economics, one of the basic topics you are taught is game theory, so it was interesting to hear Ingemar’s perspective on negotiation. The workshop provided us with a range of practical tips that will be valuable for negotiation in the business world, but also very applicable to everyday life.”
Finally, Jules Haus, entré’s Content Creator, said that “Ingemar challenged the audience with interesting ethical predicaments about human morals and choices, which are good to be aware of during negotiations. I would gladly attend one of Ingemar’s workshops again and recommend others to do to.”
Thank you to UCE partner, the Institute of Directors, for enabling our students to attend this interesting workshop.
