Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC)’s Geography, Linguistics and Civil and Structural Engineering courses have featured among QS’ Top 100 global subjects in the organisation’s annual World University Rankings by Subject 2024, released today.

Showcasing its continued excellence, UC Geography further strengthened its 2023 top 100 placing, reaching first equal in Aotearoa New Zealand.

“The placement of our Geography course exemplifies the profound impact of our research efforts and underscores the unwavering dedication of our researchers and educators,” says Tumu Tuarua Rangahau | Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Peter Gostomski.

The subjects Civil and Structural Engineering, and Linguistics have proven to be strong subject areas of the University, continuously placing among the top 100 worldwide. Professor Gostomski attributes the success to the tireless commitment of researchers and educators expanding their knowledge in this field and sharing it with the world.

“The sustained success observed across our subjects stands as a testament to the University’s delivery of creative and innovative research, aimed at benefiting both local and global communities, and our high standard of research led education.”

Professor Gostomski says this year’s results are a positive indicator of the University moving in the right direction.

The results follow QS's annual World Ranking: Sustainability 2024, which positioned UC at 10th globally for Sustainable Education, and in the top 100 for global sustainability.
