If you have experienced harmful sexual behaviour, no matter the circumstance, it was not your fault. You also do not have to cope on your own. Some people find it helpful to talk about what happened or how it is currently affecting them. There is never a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ time to seek support – you might feel ready right now, or not until sometime after. It is never too late to access support.
Accessing support can feel difficult, and it is normal to feel nervous. You might also question that what has happened was ‘not serious enough’, but everyone deserves support when they are going through a difficult time.
Support for Students
There are a number of support services available at University of Canterbury who can support you, explain protective safety measures, provide safety planning, and facilitate referrals to external support. These services include:
