Transition programmes

Not quite ready to start a full degree? or you haven't quite met the entrance requirements? If you need a more gradual transition to studying at a university level, UC has some great options that will set you up for success. 

HOW TO APPLY

Whether you're returning to study after a break and need a refresher, haven't yet met the entry requirements for university, or simply want extra support as you transition into tertiary education, UC provides a range of programmes designed to help you thrive.

Transition programmes at UC for domestic students
Certificate in University Preparation
(CUP)

Designed for students who haven't yet achieved University Entrance (UE), this programme helps you build essential skills for academic success—including time management, clear communication (both written and verbal), and strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Summer Headstart
(COP PREP)

For those who have University Entrance (UE) and would like a subject refresh and/or confidence boost before starting 100-level courses. Includes TRNS012 An Invitation to Law for future law students, and preparatory courses for future engineering & product design students on the Fast Path

Diploma in University Studies
(DipUniSt)

Offering additional support to students who have just missed University Entrance (UE) to study foundational 100-level courses towards a bachelor's degree. The programme provides additional orientation to UC support services and university life.   

 
Transition programmes at UC for international students
Certificate in Foundation Studies
(CertFounStudies)

UCIC-taught

Equivalent to the final year of high school, the programme provides a pathway into a bachelor's degree at UC. Structured across two trimesters with core courses that develop skills and knowledge necessary for academic success. 

Diploma in University Studies
(DipUniSt)

UCIC-taught

A one-year programme (three trimesters) of 100-level bachelor's degree courses with extra academic, language, and wellbeing support. Offered for commerce, engineering and science students. 

English for Academic Purposes
(EAP)

CCEL-taught

English for Academic Purposes 1 (EAP 1) and English for Academic Purposes 2 (EAP 2) are both offered by UC's on-campus English language provider Christchurch College of English (CCEL). 

Pre-master's - one semester

)

UCIC-taught

Transition from a bachelor's degree to a master's programme at UC with one semester of study taught by UCIC. 

Pre-master's - two semesters
(DipAdvUniSt)

UCIC/UC-taught

Transition from an advanced diploma or associate degree into a master's programme at UC with two semesters of study. The first semester is taught by UCIC, and the second by UC.

Start your studies overseas and transition to UC to complete your degree.

International articulation pathways

Start your studies at a partner institution and complete your qualification at UC. Pathways are available in China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam. 

Northern Consortium (NCUK) pathway

The Northern Consortium (NCUK) pathway offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree pathway qualifications across 40+ countries for entry to degree programmes at UC.
