Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury (CIUC) is part of the global Confucius Institute network. It is jointly managed by the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China).

CIUC was officially launched on 1 November 2009 by then-Vice Premier of China, LI Keqiang. As the second Confucius Institute established in New Zealand and the first in the South Island, CIUC represents a significant milestone in the advancement of cultural and educational exchange between China and New Zealand, as noted in Vice Premier Li’s remarks on the occasion.
