Outstanding Impact Programme

01 December 2025

The Outstanding Impact Programme supports high-achieving scholars, recognising students with exceptional academic abilities who are striving for outstanding achievements in their chosen fields. Through exclusive networking and development opportunities at the University of Canterbury, the programme nurtures their growth, enabling them to advance their studies in innovative areas and cultivate valuable connections that support future career success.

HOW TO APPLY

The Outstanding Impact Programme supports up to 70 new scholars each year. Every student in the programme will have access to tailored development opportunities, including exclusive events, workshops, and networking experiences designed to help them grow both academically and professionally.

Programme Aim

The Outstanding Impact Programme is guided by UC’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and leadership. It builds scholars’ capability by providing exclusive networking opportunities and tailored development experiences, empowering them to thrive in their studies and future careers while making a positive impact in their chosen fields.

Programme Overview

Delivered by UC’s Kia Angitu Student Success Team, the Outstanding Impact Programme provides an empowering and inspiring environment for high-achieving first-year scholars. Participants are encouraged to cultivate their leadership, resilience, and critical thinking skills, while engaging with a vibrant and supportive community of peers. The programme nurtures personal growth, builds confidence, and lays the foundation for making a meaningful impact within UC and beyond.

Core Components:

  • Personal and Professional Development – Scholars engage in a wide range of interactive workshops, coaching sessions, and experiential learning opportunities designed to strengthen key skills such as problem-solving, communication, and leadership. These experiences build confidence, self-awareness, and adaptability, equipping students to excel in their learning journey, pursue personal growth, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
  • Community Impact – Scholars have the opportunity to participate in initiatives both within the University and the wider community, applying their skills and knowledge to real-world challenges. Through these experiences, they develop leadership capabilities, empathy, and a deeper understanding of social and cultural contexts, enabling them to make a tangible and positive difference in the communities they engage with.
  • Cohort Networking – The programme provides multiple opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and form lasting relationships with fellow impact makers. Regular cohort events, group projects, and collaborative learning experiences foster a strong sense of belonging, peer support, and shared growth, helping students build networks that endure well beyond their first year.
  • Peer Mentoring – Scholars benefit from guidance, mentorship, and encouragement from upper-year students, who share insights, advice, and practical support. This peer-led network helps participants navigate academic and personal challenges, feel connected to the wider University community, and gain valuable perspectives from those who have walked a similar path.
