Surveying UC Students: Procedures, Policies, and Survey Calendar

UC has procedures, policies, and a survey calendar to survey our students. We do this in line with internal and external policies and laws. Our policy and procedures aim to protect the strategic importance of UC institutional research surveys and Student Evaluations of Teaching, as well as protect students from survey fatigue.

Student Community Online Survey Policy

Student feedback is strategically important at UC. To coordinate activity, avoid survey fatigue, and ensure high-quality insights, AIR holds priority for surveying UC students.

If you plan to survey current students, graduands, or graduates, please follow the University of Canterbury’s Student Community Online Survey Policy. This ensures your survey is appropriately timed, designed, and aligned with existing university-wide research.

How you can get approval to survey UC Students

This screening tool (opens in a new tab) helps ensure that online surveys involving UC students align with the Student Community Online Survey Policy.

If you plan to survey UC students for any reason, please use this tool to outline key details such as timing, target cohorts, and recruitment methods. You can go into the form and click through the questions before submitting, and if needed, you’ll have opportunities to resubmit the form or revise responses.

Once submitted, we will work with you through an iterative process, providing guidance to support compliance and best practices.

Please complete a separate screening form for each survey you intend to administer.

In accordance with the Student Community Online Survey Policy, please reference the UC Survey Calendar below for permissible timing for any surveying of students (current or graduated).

Qualtrics is the University’s approved survey software platform. Qualtrics is a powerful survey tool that allows agile and tailored data collection.
