Dr Annette Beautrais has a one-year appointment as the Suicide Prevention Programme Lead at the University of Canterbury.
She has 35 years of experience in suicide research, prevention and education in New Zealand and internationally. Her career includes roles at the University of Otago, the University of Auckland, Yale University and Health NZ.
She has contributed to global suicide prevention efforts through work with the World Health Organisation, the International Association for Suicide Prevention, and the International Academy for Suicide Research.
Her interests span suicide prevention across all age groups, with particular focus on in suicide prevention in men, means safety, rural suicide prevention, suicide clusters and contagion, and, more generally, how to implement best practice, evidence-based suicide prevention programmes as widely as possible.
