Tim Emerson is a highly regarded New Zealand pianist, teacher, and accompanist. His musical lineage began with his great-grandfather Ernest Empson, a pupil of the great Leopold Godowski. Ernest produced many of the country's leading pianists including the late Maurice Till, who was Tim's undergraduate teacher at the University of Canterbury. Tim's other notable teachers include Wallace Woodley, Deidre Irons (for M Mus), Michael Houstoun, Richard Mapp, Bryan Sayer, Jeno Jando, Boris Bermann and Alexander Slobodanik,
Tim himself has taught some of New Zealand's most gifted young pianists, who have received top marks in exams, enjoyed success in competitions both nationally and internationally, have gone on to study at prestigious institutes and have successful careers in music.
Tim has performed in concerts throughout the world, recorded for NZ and Australia concert radio, appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout New Zealand, has had numerous successes in competitions both nationally and internationally, worked as official accompanist for leading competitions, adjudicated and coached winning chamber music groups.
He currently teaches piano at the University of Canterbury.
