Develop specialised business management skills to complement your existing engineering expertise, with UC’s Master of Engineering Management.
This Online to On Campus programme allows you to start your master’s degree online from anywhere in the world and complete it on campus at the University of Canterbury.
Explore project management, communication, stakeholder engagement and sustainability, and apply your integrated technical and business skills in a real-world, industry project.
Our Online to On Campus programme for international students offers a 50% saving on your first semester of study.
The Online to On Campus Master of Engineering Management programme has four parts:
- Online (four courses)
- On Campus Flipped Classroom (four courses)
- 100 hours of supervised industry experience organised through UC
- Applied Project.
Online courses
To begin the Master of Engineering Management Online to On Campus, you will complete the following four courses online from anywhere in the world:
Term 1 (28 September 2026—29 November 2026)

On Campus courses (Flipped Classroom)
Upon successful completion of the above courses, you will travel to Christchurch, New Zealand and complete the remaining courses on campus at UC.
These courses are taught via a Flipped Classroom model. You’ll be based full-time at our Christchurch campus, and your core learning will take place through readings, videos, and digital resources.
A dedicated study room on campus is reserved for MEM students (open 40 hours a week) where you will study side-by-side with classmates, at your own pace, along with weekly facilitated sessions and in-person assessments.
Term 3 (19 July 2027 onwards)

Work-integrated learning experience
All MEM students at UC complete at least 100 hours of supervised industry experience through the Work-Integrated Learning component, organised by UC with industry connections across Canterbury and New Zealand.
These experiences help you apply classroom knowledge in practice and build a portfolio of professional achievements.
Engineering Management Project
Following successful completion of the above courses, you will remain on campus to complete a final practical project course:
To apply for the Online to On Campus Master of Engineering Management at UC you will need to meet these three requirements:
- Engineering or Science Honours degree (or equivalent)
- Minimum B- Grade Point Average in your 300-level and higher courses
- UC's Postgraduate English language requirements.

If you need help meeting the study entry requirements for your master's degree, UC offers a Pre-Master's One Semester pathway programme to accelerate you into study through our UC International College (UCIC).
Completing a pre-master’s programme will guarantee you entry the Master of Engineering Management and a range of master’s degrees across Business, Engineering, Science, Health, Education, and Arts disciplines.
As a graduate of the Master of Engineering Management you will have advanced skills in business management, leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and planning, allowing you to seek engineering management roles in engineering firms, consultancies, or government ministries. You could also apply your skills to the development of your own business.
Work while you study
Your student visa will also allow you to work part-time while you study, and also do full-time work hours over university breaks and during the summer months.

You can apply for a Post Study Work Visa after you finish your degree to stay in New Zealand and work full-time for a duration.
